Deutschlands erste Teilnahme an der europäischen Königsklasse im Amputierten-Fußball wurde durch die finanzielle Unterstützung des Bundesligisten Mainz 05 ermöglicht. Inzwischen spielt auch die Kreter Stiftung eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Förderung der Nationalmannschaft auf ihrem Weg zur Weltmeisterschaft 2026.
Die Anerkennung für die herausragenden Leistungen in diesem Sport wächst stetig – sichtbar etwa in der bewegenden Würdigung der deutschen Meister bei einem Heimspiel von Mainz 05 .
